Housing

On Campus

The only on-campus housing option at Smith is dormitory-style accommodations in residential houses; the rooms are almost all single bedrooms with shared dorm bathrooms.  The bedrooms have normal height beds, a dresser, a closet, a desk and a chair.  The rooms are not air-conditioned, but each has a window that opens and a fan.  Linens (pillow, sheets, and blanket) will be provided; fresh towels will be provided daily. Once again, dorm accommodations will be available Wednesday evening for individuals who will be participating in the tours or those who want to arrive early.

We will be staying in several dorms located throughout the campus. There will also be a special dorm for those who have limited mobility or other special needs.    Please indicate on the registration form if you require accommodation in this dorm.

Internet access will be available in every room.  The college may also make the Student Computer Center available to residents; this has computers, both PCs and Macs.

Off Campus

As an alternative to the on-campus housing, there are quite a few local hotels and motels, with varying degrees of finery and price.  We have booked blocks of rooms at:

  • The Autumn Inn, 259 Elm St, Northampton, MA 01060.  413-584-7660. $79.99 Thursday; $153.00 Friday/Saturday; single or double occupancy.  Two-night minimum required for Friday arrivals. Walking distance to Smith campus, outdoor pool. Deluxe continental breakfast included.

If you choose this option, you are responsible for making your own reservations.  To get the NEWS rate, mention NEWS when you make your reservations.  Feel free to check for better rates at other hotel/motels in the area if you have other memberships that may help (AAA, AARP, etc.).  The rooms at the Autumn Inn will be held until June 1, 2011. It is advisable to make your reservations as soon as possible, since Northampton hosts a number of conferences and sporting activities during the summer.
